The Currituck County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will be offering a class on “Starting a Vegetable Garden” on Thursday, March 21, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Living in a rural community offers many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, and nothing can be more rewarding than having your own vegetable garden. Besides being a great outdoor activity, gardens can be a great source of fresh vegetables that are a safe and nutritious food supply for families. The class will cover topics such as: the different styles of vegetable gardens; soil requirements and preparation; vegetable varieties; planting dates for the different crops; and how to manage pests. The class is opened to anyone regardless if you want to start a garden or are an experienced gardener. Please call Currituck Extension Center to register for this class at 232-2262 or register on line at go.ncsu.edu/vegetablegardening
