When a disaster strikes are you READY? The Northeast is faced with hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, accidents and even earthquakes! When emergency services cannot get to us, we as citizens rely on our community for help. Do you want to learn how to be better prepared? Join us at C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency, Response Team) Academy and learn how to cope with the aftermath of a disaster! The Northeast District 4-H C.E.R.T. Academy will be held at NC Wesleyan College & Gateway Technology Center in Rocky Mount, NC on July 7 – 9, 2014. Space is available for six rising 6th through 8th graders to attend. Each camper will take home a C.E.R.T. kit, valued at $60, filled with safety equipment. Some items in the kit include: emergency mylar blanket, first aid kit, flashlight, leather working gloves, light sticks, safety goggles and more.

A completed registration form, which can be found on our website currituck.ces.ncsu.edu and payment of $100.00 (payable to Currituck County) is due by May 24, 2014. For more information, you may contact Ellen Owens at the Extension 4-H office, 232-2262 or ellen_owens@ncsu.edu
