The Currituck Master Gardeners are celebrating another successful Home, Flower and Garden Show. This year’s show was held on April 17th and 18th at N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center in Barco. The Master Gardener Volunteers have been hosting the show for 18 years. The theme for this year was Pollinator Appreciation. The show featured exhibits and demonstrations on bonsai, making tunnel nests for bees, plant propagation, soil sampling, and rain barrels. The Master Gardeners sold vegetable plants, hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, garden gloves and rain barrel kits as a fundraiser to support educational programs and the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden. The show this year was larger than ever before featuring 51 vendors. The vendors offered a wide variety of items for the home and garden including wind chimes, pottery, birdhouses, metal yard sculptures, handmade arts and crafts and compost. New for this year, were the Tower Garden, sod, beneficial microbes, decorative gourds, lawn mowers and fresh produce. Another new feature this year were outdoor vendors. Nine vendors were set up outside in the courtyard between the Extension Building and the Senior Center. The food vendor was also outside next to the new picnic shelter where attendees could enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs in the shade. Each year the Pasquotank Master Gardeners create a large and very informative display for the show. The Currituck Master Gardeners would like to thank the Pasquotank Master Gardeners for their continued support of this show and this year’s beautiful display on plant pollination. Attendance this year was approximately 1000 people. For information about the 2016 Home, Flower and Garden Show contact Deborah Foster 252-232-2262 or deborah_foster@ncsu.edu.
