Children in our community need your help! Currituck Extension’s 4-H program initiated a nationally known program six years ago called 4-H Backpacks for Kids. The Currituck 4-H Backpacks for Kids program discreetly provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to chronically hungry children on weekends during the school year.

Weekends are a critical time for these children because they have access to fewer food resources, such as the free school lunches, they receive during the week. Each weekend this program provides each child with enough food for six full meals that they can easily prepare. Local corporate sponsors, community groups, churches and individual donors ensure that there is no overhead cost for this critical program. All donations to the program go entirely to the children and the purchase of food for over 155 elementary school children in Currituck County.

Thanks to the continued support of corporate sponsors like VBL Technologies and Paveya, a website was created that allows individuals to make online donations to help sponsor this program. Citizens can visit the 4-H Backpacks for Kids website for details about the program, or to make contributions: Donations can also be received at the Currituck Extension Center located at 120 Community Way in Barco. Checks should be made payable to the Currituck Extension Foundation. The Currituck Extension Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation that receives support from the North Carolina Community Foundation.
