It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The holidays are among us, and joy is everywhere. As we celebrate with family and friends, let’s be sure to remember all those who may need a helping hand. Food banks and pantries accept monetary and food donations year-round, but the holiday season is particularly special. For households who may not have the means to purchase holiday meals, food banks and pantries serve as an essential resource.

There are several large food banks across North Carolina which serve different geographic areas of the state. Visit Feeding America to find an affiliated food bank in your area. On a smaller scale, food pantries which operate as community-based organizations in each county can assist with food to local community member. Many places of worship, health clinics, and school districts have an affiliated pantry for their members. If visiting a food pantry, be sure to check eligibility requirements, as they may vary from place to place.

Congregate meal sites also offer holiday meals. Senior and recreation centers are two of the most popular locations for meals. Please be sure to check the requirements for your local meal sites. If you or someone you know are unable to travel to a food pantry or meal site, certain programs offer meal/food delivery services. Due to the continuation of COVID-19, drive-through food pantries may also be available.

If you are interested in applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), please contact More In My Basket for an eligibility screening and application assistance.
