Are you interested in gardening? Here’s a way to make your winter blues go away! Start planning your spring garden now with the 2022 Library Garden Series presented by the Dare Extension Master Gardeners in conjunction with the Dare County Libraries.

This year all programs will be offered “virtually” rather than in person. All programs will be on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. Presentations will last approximately one hour, and people can choose to attend one or all of the programs that are of interest to them. For 2022, we hope you will join us for many brand new never-before offered programs as well as some of our most popular topics from years past.

Plants that Survive & thrive on the Outer Banks (New)

Dare County Master Gardeners have chosen 7 plants that have done well in the tough conditions of the Outer Banks. Featured plants this year are Geranium, Hollyhock, Butterfly weed, Hosta, Oleander, Aucuba and Hydrangea.

Pollinators

We are dependent on pollinators for our food as well as supporting our ecosystem. This presentation addresses our need for pollinators and how we can help them.

Gardening 101 for the Outer Banks (New)

Do you want to start a garden, but do not know where to begin? This program will provide you with research-based methods for starting a garden while taking into consideration the challenges the Outer Banks environment offers.

Native Plants for Your Backyard (New)

Adding a native plant to your landscape helps care for nature and enhances the local environment while adding beauty and diversity to the area. These plants are well adapted to the physical environment formed by our local climate, weather conditions, soil types, and other factors that affect gardening on the Outer Banks.

Using Native Plants to Attract Wildlife

Migrating and year-round birds are best adapted to native plants for food and cover. This program describes the various plants that can be used to attract birds.

Controlling Pests – Bad Boys on the Outer Banks (New)

Be able to identify some of the common Pests on the Outer Banks and methods of controlling them in your garden, home, and landscape.
