The focus of all 4-H programs is the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens. The National 4-H Shooting Sports Program stands out as an example!

After qualifying at a District and State competition, a National tryout, and months of practicing, NC had 31 4-H competitors represent our State at the 4-H Shooting Sports Nationals June 26 – June 30. Five of the 31 competitors were from the Young Naturalist 4-H Club here in Henderson County!

Henderson County 4-H competitors, families, and coaches traveled to Grand Island Nebraska the week of June 26-30 for the 4-H National Shooting Sports Championships!

The week was filled with laughter, friendship, community, nervous anticipation, concentration, competitiveness and lots and lots of awards!
Henderson County Shooting
4-H Shooting Sports Nationals is a three day event with three different types of competitions each day in one’s discipline. Awards are presented every day after each competition, as well as overall results on the fourth day. Results are below:
Recurve Archery  – Eliana Pressley was one four NC team members
Day 1 – Team 4th place 
Day 2 – Team 1st place
Day 3 Team 1st place 
Overall – 1st Place team in the Nation! 
Pistol – Caleb McCarson was one of four NC team members
Day 1- Team 1st place
Day 2 – Team 3rd place
Day 3 –
Overall – 3rd place team in the Nation! 
Air Pistol – Emma Wilkie, Kinsley Lance, and Ivory Eatmon, three of four NC team members
Day 1 – Team 4th place, Emma 4th place individual score
Day 2 – Team 2nd place, Emma 1st place individual score
Day 3 – Team 5th place, Emma 1st place individual score
Overall – 3rd place team in the Nation!

Henderson County 4-H is proud of each of our competitors who diligently practiced and made it to the National level of competition!

We are also very proud of the amazing volunteer coaches who give endless time and effort to teach, support and mentor our shooting sports participants.
