Our celebration of 4-H youth accomplishments continues with some exciting news from the national stage! Five talented members of the Currituck County Sharpshooters 4-H Club recently represented North Carolina at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament — and they didn’t just show up, they shined. Through focus, skill, and determination, these youth earned impressive placements that highlight both their hard work and their passion for the sport.
Currituck County 4-H Sharpshooters team members Ariana Dudley, Chloe Fredrick, Max Grzebin, Marlie Johnson and Christian Nichols recently competed as members of the NC 4-H State Shooting Sports delegation at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament in Grand Island Nebraska held on June 22-27, 2025.
The 2025 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships consisted of competitive tournaments in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills. This year’s national competition was the largest ever and saw 740 participants from 40 states competing in one or more of the above disciplines.
Maximus Grzebin was a member of the NC 4-H Small Bore (.22) Rifle Team which finished 7th in both CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) and Silhouette competition leading to an 8th place finish in team rifle competition for the NC team.
Chloe Fredrick, competing at the national level for the third time, was a member of the NC Small Bore Pistol team. The NC pistol team had an outstanding tournament, placing 1st in all three days (Slowfire, Silhouette and Camp Perry) and 1st Overall in team pistol competition. Chloe had two top 10 finishes (9th in Slowfire and 3rd in Silhouette).
Christian Jenkins was a member of the NC 4-H Air Rifle team which placed in the top 10 each day leading to a 9th place overall finish in the team competition.
Ariana Dudley and Marlie Johnson were members of the NC 4-H Air Pistol Team. This team placed 3rd in Rapidfire, 2nd in Silhouette and 6th in Slowfire, resulting in a 3rd Place overall in the Air Pistol Team Competition.
These outstanding 4-H’ers devoted countless hours practicing and training with their coaches here in Currituck, and they also traveled to Ellerbe, NC each month for NC team practice, training, and instruction. Their dedication and commitment to excellence was key to their success – Congratulations!
