Winter Discover 4-H

Discover 4-H Club is an engaging youth program designed to introduce members to the wide range of opportunities available through 4-H. This hands-on, interactive club explores a variety of topics throughout the year—including science, agriculture, arts, leadership, and more—giving youth the chance to discover their interests while building valuable life skills. Open to ages 5–7 and 8–12, the club offers a supportive and fun environment where creativity, knowledge, and skill development thrive. Whether members are brand-new to 4-H or returning with experience, the Discover 4-H Club provides ongoing opportunities for learning and personal growth, all rooted in the 4-H motto of Learning by Doing.” Join us each month as our club dives into a new and exciting theme!

January 9th  :  Crystals Creations

Join our “Crystal Creations” 4-H  program and turn everyday borax into dazzling, geometric crystals! You’ll discover the fascinating science behind crystallization, including concepts like solubility, saturation, and supersaturated solutions. Learn how temperature affects crystal growth and what factors determine the shape and size of your final masterpiece. It’s a fun, hands-on experiment where creativity meets chemistry, and you get to take your beautiful, homemade crystals home. Sign up today for an unforgettable blend of art and science!

February 6th: First Aid in Action

Join the 4-H First Aid in Action program and gain the essential skills to be a confident helper in an emergency! You’ll master the basics of administering first aid for common injuries like cuts, burns, and nosebleeds, focusing on the critical Check-Call-Care procedure. We’ll explore the vital role of the 911 dispatcher—the trained professional on the other end of the call who guides you and coordinates emergency responders. Best of all, you’ll assemble and take home your own basic first aid kit containing essential items like assorted bandages, antiseptic wipes, gauze, medical tape, and an emergency contact list, empowering you to safely assist your family and community.

March 6th: Dye Hard Fabric Art 

Unleash your inner artist with our “Dye Hard” Fabric Art Program! Dive into the vibrant world of textile coloring as you learn the unique properties and application techniques of both natural dyes (sourced from plants and minerals) and synthetic dyes (modern, vibrant, and colorfast). You’ll discover how to create stunning patterns using classic tie-dye methods. This hands-on experience culminates in you taking home two fantastic, personally-designed creations: a cool, colorful tie-dyed pillowcase and a matching pair of dyed socks! Come explore chemistry, history, and fashion all in one creative session.

All programs will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension office located at 120 Community Way, Barco NC 27917 starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. These programs are free, but space is limited. Please note that there are two age groups for each workshop (5-7 and 8-10)-make sure to select the correct section when completing the registration form.

All participants must also be enrolled in 4-H Online for the 2026 program year; the link to that portion of the registration process is 4honline.com
