Currituck County 4-H will be hosting an Open House and Youth Fun Day, Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 10am to 2pm at the County Extension Center in Barco. This event is free and will provide an opportunity for youth and parents to learn about 4-H and meet the 4-H staff and volunteers. Youth ages 5-18 are welcome and there will be information and activities for everyone.
Today’s kids are growing up in a world where they face tremendous challenges. In order to succeed they need opportunities to develop and practice critical life skills like effective communications, decision-making, problem solving and analytical thinking - 4-H provides these opportunities. Additionally, research has shown that youth participating in 4-H have significantly lower incidences of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and abuse than non 4-H youth and they are 2.3 times more likely to go to college.
Young people “learn by doing” and we have many exciting programs and areas of interest for them to explore - everything from growing giant watermelons and growing plants without soil to building and programming robots and drones. We have livestock and poultry programs, shooting sports teams, international cooking, electronics and alternative energy and so many more. So join us for an afternoon of fun and learn all about 4-H.
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required and you can register online at go.ncsu.edu/2019openhouse or by calling the office. For more information on 4-H youth programs and activities contact Sherry Fischlschweiger via phone, 252-232-2262, or email, sherry_fischlschweiger@ncsu.edu.
