Description:

Vermicomposting or Vermiculture is a method composting where worms convert food scraps into two of the best soil amendments on earth: worm castings, a fancy way to say worm poop, and worm tea, a liquid fertilizer derived from either castings and/or the leachate collected from a worm bin.

Vermicomposting is a great way to compost for people who don’t have yard waste, live in apartments, condominiums, or mobile home parks, or simply do not have the strength to compost yard waste. This type of composting can be done in a garage, utility room, or closet. It is neat, easy, and odorless when done correctly.

This class is free and will offer a 30 minute hands on exercise, which involves the construction of your own worm bin. All attendees will receive necessary materials required to start vermicomposting.

The class will be instructed by Bill Jowers. Bill is a Currituck Master GardenerSM volunteer and the resident worm bin guru. Join us on July 16th at the Currituck County Extension Office from 10:00am. to 11:30am. to create your very own worm bin, or assist in making someone else's! Please register online at go.ncsu.edu/vermicompostjuly19 .

If you have questions about the class, or if you need accommodations for persons with disabilities please contact Chris Blaha at 252-232-2262 or email ctblaha@ncsu.edu no later than five business days before the event.
