The Wellness Committee has been around for several years and is made up of representatives from various departments. The committee meets every other month in the Cooperative Extension Building.

The goal of the committee is to promote health and fitness among our county employees. Healthier employees make for more productive employees. Becoming healthier and fit decreases insurance claims and time away from work, which is good for the County and especially good for the individual employee. For more information contact Olivia Jones 232-2261 or by email olivia_jones@ncsu.edu.

Description:

The Northeast District Science Camp will be held July 15th-18th, 2018, in Rocky Mount NC.

This year NC Cooperative Extension will offer a national award-winning program known as My Preparedness Initiative (MyPI NC). This innovative three-part program, focused on Emergency Preparedness and Leadership empowers NC Teens to engage their families, their peers, and their communities in disaster readiness and response. Youth ages 12-18 will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication and decision-making skills while simultaneously building a life-saving skill set that includes basic first aid, fire safety and suppression, search and rescue techniques, and disaster medical operations.

Participants in this year’s NED Science Camp will complete the first and second components of MyPI NC which includes Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency; a disaster simulation exercise; a specialized technology module demonstrating the technology available for disaster response; and participate in a Career Track that focuses on the emergency management, public safety and fire service careers.

The third component of MyPI is the “PREP + 6” community service project in which each participant works with their 4-H Agent and the MyPI certified instructor to help develop emergency supply kits and emergency communication plans for their household and six other households in their neighborhood/community. Participants must complete all three components in order to receive their MyPI certification and their personal disaster response ready bag.

Pre-registration for the science camp is required by May 15th.

You can begin the registration process through our online registration form. Registration is not complete until fees and a completed 4-H Enrollment Form are received. Payment can be made in person at the Extension Office or by mailing a check made payable to “Currituck County” to 120 Community Way, Barco, NC 27917.
