Currituck County 4-H is hosting a two day 4-H Fun with Fish Day camp June 13-14, 2018 from 9am-3pm for youth ages 7-12 years of age. On day one participants of this two day camp will learn how to ID the different fish swimming in our local waters, learn how to cast, learn about the different bait that can be used, and on day two they will take a trip to Jennette’s Pier where they will spend some time using those casting skills and catch some fish.  

Pre-registration and a registration fee of $10 must be paid to secure your spot. Space is limited so please do not delay in registering your child.  Pre-registration can be found at this link: http://go.ncsu.edu/funwithfish2018 . You can mail in the required 4-H forms and the registration fee to NCCES 120 Community Way, Barco NC 27917. Those forms can be found at http://go.ncsu.edu/4hrequiredforms .

Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) training is a 30-hour training course that provides volunteers with the education and opportunity to support their local community and Extension Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) agents with food-related programming. The Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Currituck County is currently accepting applications for 2018. This year’s class will be offered in the evenings to accommodate gardening enthusiasts who are otherwise obligated during the day. Classes start on September 25 and run for 13 weeks, ending on December 20. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center located at 120 Community Way in Barco. The fee for this program is $95 and no prior gardening experience is necessary.

Participants will learn about horticulture topics including botany, soils, fertilizers, houseplants, lawns, plant insects and diseases, weeds, pesticides, vegetables, fruits, landscape design, plant materials, wildlife, and volunteering. Classes are designed to prepare Master Gardener℠ volunteers for service as volunteers and resident plant experts with NC State Extension.

Pre-registration by Sept. 10 is required. You can register online or contact the office at 252-232-2261 to obtain an application. Payment must be received within 5 business days of registering and can be made in person at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center or by mailing a check made payable to “Currituck County” to 120 Community Way, Barco, NC 27917.

Add flavor with Herbs and Spices

Having the knowledge to be creative in the kitchen is not only fun but it empowers you to prepare an endless possibility of meals. Join NC Cooperative Extension for their upcoming Cooking with Herbs and Spices Class. Master the art of pairing, and understand how to use herbs and spices in your everyday dishes to turn up the flavor. Class will be held on October 25th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This class will be hands-on and sampling the delicious dishes we prepare is encouraged. Reserve your seat by paying the $15.00 class fee and pre-registering.
