2022 NE Ag Expo Corn Variety Trial Data

Harvesting a corn field

The Northeast Ag Expo Team is comprised of agriculture Extension agents in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties. Annually, this group conducts variety trials of corn, wheat, and soybeans. With the support of seed companies, the Ag Expo Team plants multiple trials across the six counties of Northeast North Carolina. These trials are conducted using the same varieties in each of the species planted. The data from these field experiments are compiled and shared with farmers across the region to help them to make profitable agriculture decisions for the upcoming cropping season.

This year, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center Staff partnered with Barco Brother’s Farms to produce the Currituck Corn Variety Trial. Data from this trial, and the other NE Ag Expo Counties’ can be found in the table below. Varieties are listed in descending order according to average yield across locations (i.e. 1 (highest yielding) to 21 (lowest yielding). Within locations, the varieties are ranked in descending order according to yield from highest (1) to lowest yielding variety (21). The top three yielding varieties within locations and across locations have their ranking marked as follows: 1 (blue), 2 (red), and 3 (yellow). Production information can be found on page two of this report.
