2023 NE Ag Expo Variety Trial Data

(Updated: Jan. 2, 2024, 11:06 a.m.)

The Northeast Ag Expo Team is comprised of agriculture Extension agents in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties. Annually, this group conducts variety trials of corn, wheat, and soybeans. With the support of seed companies, the Ag Expo Team plants multiple trials across the six counties of Northeast North Carolina. These trials are conducted using the same varieties in each of the species planted. The data from these field experiments are compiled and shared with farmers across the region to help them to make profitable agriculture decisions for the upcoming cropping season.

This year, Currituck County Extension Staff partnered with Barco Brother’s Farms to produce the Currituck Corn Variety Trial. Data from this trial, and the other NE Ag Expo Counties’ can be found in the table below. Varieties are listed in descending order according to average yield (i.e. 1 (highest yielding) to 22 (lowest yielding). The top three yielding varieties within locations have their ranking marked as follows: 1 (blue), 2 (red), and 3 (yellow). Production information can be found on page two of this report.

At the same time, Extension staff partnered with the Garrett family to produce the Currituck Soybean Variety Trial. This year we tested Xtend beans here in Currituck. Varieties are listed in the same manner as the corn trial, and again, production data can be found on page two of this report.
