What’s Cooking?

NC Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center is cooking up tons of fun, educational programs this year. You too can join in on the excitement! Check out the class descriptions below to see if anything catches your eye, then reserve your seat by pre registering here  and paying the associated class fee*! Kitchen Tech: Electric Pressure and Slow Cookers

Do you fear some of your kitchen tools? To find how to safely operate and prep meals for electric pressure cookers and slow cookers on March 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This hands-on cooking class will help you feel confident using your kitchen tools to their full ability. You will leave with a full stomach and goodies to take home. Class fee is $20.00*.

Home Canning: Fermentation

This year we are kicking off the ever-popular Home Canning Series with something new and effervescent! Join us March 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm as we learn the science behind the process of food fermentation and understand its safe application in products  from vegetables to teas. You will also get to experience the first steps in starting the fermentation process. The class fee is $15.00* and includes a book on fermentation.

One Pot Meals

Cooking can be messy! But NC Cooperative Extension can help with that. Learn to cook in one pot and cut your cleaning time in half. On March 29 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm join us for our hand-on One Pot Meal Cooking Class. Participants will be able to prepare an health and delicious full course meal by using just one pot. Class fee is $10.00*.

Kitchen Tech: Ovens and Microwaves

Are you getting the most out of your kitchen appliances? To find out, join us April 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for our Ovens and Microwaves Kitchen Tech class. This hands-on cooking class will help you feel confident using your kitchen tools to their full ability and will help you build your meal prepping skills. You will leave with a full stomach and goodies to take home. Class fee is $20.00*.

Healthy Snacking

We all love to snack. The best snacks are the ones that are easy to make, taste great, and fill you up without weighing you down. Join us on April 24th from 10:00am to 12:00pm  for an interactive cooking session and make some healthy snacks from veggies to sweets. Class fee is $10.00*.

International Cooking: French Baking

Looking to step up your baking game? Try our French Baking class scheduled on April 30th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm where we will be learning the basics of making macarons. Class fee is $10.00*.

Home Canning: Jams and Jellies

How sweet it is to have fresh jams and jellies year round! Join us on May 11th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and get your hands sticky preparing and canning these sweet spreads. Class fee is $15.00* and includes special goodies to take home.

Kitchen Tech: Grilling

One of the best ways to celebrate summer is cooking outdoors. Do you know how to get the most out of your grill? Experience preparing and cooking meals for the grill on May 15th from 6 to 8:00 pm. Class fee is $20.00* and includes special goodies to take home.

Gardening and Cooking with Herbs

Do you love to garden? Do you love to eat? If the answer is yes or even maybe, you will  want to join us on May 21st from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to learn more about growing herbs and how to incorporate them into a healthy diet. Class fee is $20.00 *and you will leave with a “container garden”, a full lunch, and several recipes using herbs.

International Cooking: Mexican Cookery

Spice up your family dinners with our Mexican Cookery class on May 23rd from 10 to 1:00pm. Learn traditional Mexican cooking techniques with a healthy spin for a $15.00 class fee*. Lunch will be provided by you and fun is guaranteed!

Summer 2018

Summer Home Canning Series

Our summer home canning series is a hands-on experience of preparing and canning produce that could be grown in your home garden. If you want to free up some space in your freezer, join us for one of our many home canning classes. Also note we have one spring canning class listed in May. Each class has a $15.00 fee*. Be sure to watch our Canning 101 video at go.ncsu.edu/canning101. Class begins at 1:00 and you will leave with canning goodies!

  • August 10th Fruit Butters
