4-H Grows Here!
4-H Achievement Night is a spectacular 4-H event for our 4-H’ers to be recognized for their achievements throughout the year. This year’s event was held on March 8th and the theme was “4-H Grows Here.” This theme was chosen for our Achievement Night because it represents our program so well. Through the growth we see in the growing numbers of our program, but more so in the fact that the children in this program grow. They grow in the ways of community service, leadership, civically, and so many other ways. I am so happy that 4-H grows so well here in Yadkin County.
This night was led by Yadkin County 4-H Teen Council. Maylee Hudspeth presented the Pledge of Allegiance, Rebekah Crouse gave the 4-H Pledge, and Reece Jones gave the thought of the night. After this portion of the meeting, the attendees got to partake in a dinner provided by Books & Brew Coffee Shop in East Bend and Yadkin Valley Law in Yadkinville. After everyone was served, Bailey Poindexter started presiding over the night’s activities, She introduced our Interim County Extension Director, Bryan Cave, gave a message about the positive impact that 4-H can have on young people.

The next portion of our event consisted of our Talent Show where Bryson Helton was the emcee. We had seven talent acts at this event that ranged from singing, to dancing, to playing instruments. First we had Henley Poindexter sing “Uncool” by Leanna Crawford. Next we had Emmalyn Rogers perform Lonesome Fiddle Blues written by Vassar Clements on the mandolin. After this act we had Emerie Mullis singing 175, which is a Primitive Baptist version of Amazing Grace. After her we had Gabriella Rogers singing “You Will Be Found” by Natalie Grant. Next we had Katherine Swaim singing First Church of Mercy. Next we had Addi Kelly dance to “Scars to your Beautiful.” Lastly, Gabriella, Emmalyn, and Elise Rogers sang “Down to the River” acapella. All acts were amazing and were enjoyed by our audience. Two were selected to go over to the district with Gabriella, Emmalyn, and Elise Rogers receiving first place for their trio and Henley Poindexter receiving second place for her singing act.

Next, we gave awards for those that completed 4-H Project Record Books or Portfolios. Which is where 4-H’ers complete a project and use record keeping to tell about their project along with the other things they have done in 4-H. This year, we received 33 books this year. This is also done the year prior to submitting their project books (their work from January 1st, 2023-December 31st, 2023) The placements are as follows:

The next portion of our program took time to recognize our 4-H graduating high school seniors. These 4-H’ers were given 4-H Honor Cords for their outstanding work in the 4-H program over the years. The 4-H’ers that were recognized this year were Carly Greene, Bryson Helton, and Skylar Kimmer.

The last award we gave out on this night were our 4-H’ers of the Year Awards for 2023. These 4-H’ers had to be nominated for this award and they had to be outstanding 4-H members in Yadkin County 4-H through various 4-H activities. Our winners this year were Rebekah Crouse, who is a Yadkin County 4-H Teen Council member and Henley Poindexter who is a member of the Deep Creek 4-H Club.

This was a fantastic night of celebrating our youth for their work over the year and via a few other competitions. We hope that this event will continue on for many years to come so our youth are recognized and celebrated for their accomplishments.
