Currituck Holiday Parade Rules
Entrants must observe ALL rules and regulations listed below. Entrants must also follow ALL instructions from law enforcement and parade officials at all times on parade day. The Currituck County Parade Committee reserves the right to remove any entrant from the parade at any point on parade day. Removal can occur prior to assembly, while assembling, or any time during the parade.
GENERAL RULES
- NO MATERIALS MAY BE THROWN ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE (distribution of candy along parade route is allowed if it is HANDED to parade viewers by walking entry members)
- NO EMERGENCY VEHICLES ON CALL SHOULD ENTER THE PARADE. Off duty vehicles and staff are welcome
- Use of high intensity sound making devices is strongly discouraged.
- No units may stop forward motion for performances.
- Alcoholic beverages are forbidden on any float, in any vehicle, or on the person of any participant. Participants consuming alcohol prior to or during the parade will be removed from the lineup.
- Drivers of any and all vehicles in the parade areas must be at least 18 years old; possess a valid driver’s license and/or endorsement for the type and class of vehicle being operated; and possess valid vehicle liability insurance.
- All vehicles must be properly registered, inspected and rated to tow the float they will be pulling.
- Vehicles must maintain adequate spacing and a consistent pace of no more than 5 MPH.
- Floats with walking participants must have a spotter who is in two-way communication with the float driver
- No participants may jump on a float to ride and not interfere with any other unit in any way. Float capacity will not be exceeded. No participants will dismount from a float during the parade route. Participants will not have body parts, particularly legs and feet, extending past the sides, front or rear of the float. This is an extreme safety hazard.
- All handlers of animals are required to clean up after animals in the staging area and along the parade route.
- Costumes worn by parade participants are to be family friendly. Costumes can be Christmas themed but NO PARTICIPANT MAY DRESS AS SANTA.
- Performances by parade participants are to be family friendly.
LINEUP
All entries will be assigned a line-up number and receive further instructions about the parade upon approval of your application. All approved applicants can begin arriving at 3pm but must be at the staging area no later than 6:00pm on Parade Day. The parade will begin promptly at 7pm. Entry to the staging area can only be accessed from Barco Way. Only vehicles with an approved application will be allowed to enter the assembly area. Walkers will be dropped off at Central Elementary School and picked up at COA. No vehicles dropping off float riders will be allowed into the staging area.
ROUTE
The parade will start from the assembly area, go down Aviation Pkwy, turn right onto Community Way, proceed past the main stage at the Cooperative Extension Building and in front of the YMCA. It will turn right on Maple Pkwy and continue past the ball fields. Floats will turn left on College Way to exit the parade on Shortcut Rd. Walkers will be picked up at the COA parking lot. If your float requires disassembly, you will go to the area behind COA then exit to Shortcut Rd. from the airport.
NO PARTICIPANT WILL STOP MOTION OF THE PARADE PROCESSION UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED BY A PARADE OFFICIAL OR DEPUTY.
