The end of summer and the beginning of fall is time for watermelon and pumpkin harvests. After you’ve spent numerous days caring for and protecting your plants, you’re finally ready to reap your rewards. If the joy of eating that sweet watermelon, or carving that enormous pumpkin aren’t enough, why not enter your gourd in our Largest Watermelon or Largest Pumpkin contest?

Starting on September 1, 2020, as a part of the Fall Family Fun: An Online Fair Event, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center will be holding a Largest Watermelon and Largest Pumpkin contest. The contests will go until October 23, so you’ve got plenty of time to grow those gourds! Winners will be announced the following Tuesday, October 27 and prizes will be awarded.

To enter, sign up for the Fall Family Fun: An Online Fair Event https://currituckfallfair.eventbrite.com. Once registered, fill out the form for either the Largest Watermelon contest, or the Largest Pumpkin contest. Each form requires you to take three measurements, the length, width, and height, as well as include a photo of you and your entry. Your photo must include the watermelon or pumpkin that you grew on the vine. The video below includes more information on how to measure your entry.
