Currituck County 4-H Sharpshooter team member Kilynn Brinkley was a member of the 4 person, NC 4-H Air Pistol Team that finished third overall at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 26 – July 1, 2022.
The 2022 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships consist of competitive tournaments in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills.
North Carolina 4-H was one of 39 states with teams competing in one or more of the above disciplines and the NC 4-H Air Pistol team was one of 15 competing in the air pistol competition. North Carolina finished seventh overall in the competition and the Air Pistol Team contributed to that ranking with an 3rd place finish in the 3-part air pistol competition.
Kilynn earned the opportunity to try out for the NC Air Pistol team by posting outstanding scores at the NC 4-H East Region and NC State Shooting Sports competitions. She then posted top 4 scores at the NC 4-H National Team tryouts held last October, and was selected to represent NC 4-H Shooting Sports as members of the 2022 team.
Kilynn devoted countless hours practicing and training with coaches Kathy Melton, Malcolm Murray, Jason Fredrick, and Eric Brinkley here in Currituck. She also traveled to Ellerbe, NC each month for NC team practice, training, and instruction. Her dedication and commitment to excellence was key to her success. Congratulations Kilynn!
The 4-H Shooting Sports program offers young people a positive experience in shooting sports and promotes the safe sport of hunting and firearms safety.
