Kids that participated in district activity day

At N.C. Cooperative Extension, 4-H Youth Development strives to equip young people with the knowledge and skills they need to become successful adults. Effective communications and public speaking skills are vital as youth develop into tomorrow’s leaders. Currituck County 4-H staff and volunteers worked with 4-H members to write, rehearse and deliver presentations at Northeast District 4-H Activity Day June 21, 2024 in Edgecombe County.

Twenty Five Currituck County 4-H’ers were among 159 youth, from 22 counties, who competed in the public speaking competition at the Tarboro Campus of Edgecombe Community College in Edgecombe County NC. Currituck youth who are considered competitive (8 -18 yrs) had an outstanding day and brought home 16 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals, 2 Bronze Medals and 2 Fourth+ ribbons. In addition, our Cloverbud (5-7) presenters did an outstanding job earning Blue Ribbons.

All Gold and Silver Medal winners earned the opportunity to participate in the State 4-H Presentation Finals where they will compete against the Gold and Silver Medalists from across the state. State Presentation Finals will be held Tuesday July 23, 2024 in Raleigh NC.

Currituck County 4-H thanks all the parents and volunteers who helped these young people do their best and achieve success. This annual public speaking contest is open to all Currituck County youth.
