Winter Soups on a cutting board

Get ready to cook up a healthier winter season! N.C. Cooperative Extension in Currituck is excited to announce a special three-part workshop series designed to help you make nutritious choices during the colder months. The Cooking Up Health series will include interactive classes focused on Healthy Holiday Eating, Budget-Friendly Meal Planning, and Winter Nutrition for Immune Support. Each 90-minute session will feature live cooking demonstrations, practical nutrition tips, and take-home recipes.

The cost for each session is $20. Payment can be made by cash, check or via credit card through Eventbrite. Please, make checks payable to NCSU. Checks and cash payments can be received at the Currituck Extension Office located at 120 Community Way Barco NC 27917, within 5 days of registration. Class size is limited and full registration, including payment, is required to hold your spot.

Cooking Up Health: Workshop Series Schedule

All sessions will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center on 120 Community Way in Barco from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  1. Healthy Holiday Eating
    Date: November 21
    Embrace the holiday season with heart-healthy and waistline-friendly alternatives to traditional holiday dishes. Learn simple ways to add nutrition without losing flavor and discover tips to manage holiday stress eating.
  2. Budget-Friendly Meal Planning
    Date: January 14
    Discover how to make nutritious meals on a budget without sacrificing quality or flavor. This session will offer meal-planning strategies, affordable ingredient swaps, and budget-saving tips to support your health without breaking the bank.
  3. Winter Nutrition for Immune Support
    Date: February 4
    Keep your immune system strong this winter with nutrition strategies tailored for cold weather. This workshop will cover foods rich in immune-boosting nutrients, along with delicious, hearty recipes to keep you warm and well.

Each class is designed to empower participants with cooking skills and nutrition knowledge, to enjoy balanced meals and meet health goals. Attendees will leave each session with printed recipes and a packet of valuable resources to support their journey toward healthier eating.
