4-H children with chickens

Currituck and Camden County 4-H youth poultry show was held on October 4, 2024. After an evening of fun and spirited competition, the results from our four main bird classes—Standard Hen, Bantam, Rooster, and Breed—are in, and they are truly worth celebrating!

Standard Laying Hen:

1st place:  Amiya Thurston, Camden,

2nd place:  Grayson Williams, Currituck 

3rd place:Cole Waltman, Currituck. 

Bantam:

1st Place: Taylor Morgan, Currituck. 

Breed-Buff Orpington 

1st place: Taylor Morgan, Currituck

2nd place: Dylan Waltman, Currituck

3rd place:Cole Waltman, Currituck.

In addition to the bird classes, the Showmanship Competition added a dynamic element to the show; these young 4-H’ers took center stage by demonstrating their poultry handling skills and answering questions about poultry care, anatomy and breeds. 

Showmanship Junior Division (ages 8-10)

1st place: Savannah Waltman, Currituck

2nd place: Dylan Waltman, Currituck, 

3rd place: Amiya Thurston, Camden

Showmanship Intermediate Division (ages 11-13) 

1st place: Cole Waltman, Currituck 

2nd place: Grayson Williams, Currituck. 

Showmanship Senior Division (14-18)

1st Place: Taylor Morgan, Currituck. 

The Educational Poster and Expressive Arts Contest was a new addition to the show this year and it was a great hit. These contests allowed the competitors to creatively display their poultry knowledge and artistic talents.

Cloverbud (5-7yrs) Showman

We had three Blue Ribbon showman in the Cloverbud Division:

Wesley Cooper, Camden

Skylar Williams, Currituck 

Harlow Boginsky, Currituck

Wesley and Skylar also earned Blue Ribbons for their Educational Posters.

We expect to have another great Poultry Show in 2025, so be on the lookout for registration details in March of 2025.
