Currituck County hosted the North East District Horse Bowl competition on February 8, 2025. The 4-H Horse Bowl Contest is designed to offer an opportunity for youth interested in horses to display their knowledge in a competitive and friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it is designed to encourage youth and leaders to study and obtain a more thorough and complete knowledge of horses and related subject matter. The counties participating in the contest were Halifax, Perquimens, Nash and Currituck. Currituck County had two teams, both competing in the Mixed (junior & senior) Division.

Grace Sorey

Currituck County Mixed Team “M”, comprised of Karleigh Meads, Sophia Haislop, Amanda Jennings, Emma Quigley and Jazlynn Simpson, placed second. Currituck County Mixed Team “L” with Abby Porrier, Gracie Moody, Keirstien Porrier and Grace Sorey placed 4th. Additionally, several Currituck competitors received Individual high point awards:

  • Amanda Jennings, 1st
  • Karleigh Meads 7th,
  • Sophia Haislop 8th
  • Emma Quigley 10th.

With their outstanding finish, Mixed Team “M” will advance to the State Competition that will be held March 8, 2025 on the campus of NCSU in Raleigh NC . The teams were coached by Tom Harrell with Hannah Meads and Lauren Porrier as volunteer coaches.

Congratulations to all these outstanding 4-H’ers and good luck to Mixed Team “M” at the State 4-H Horse Bowl Competition next month.
