Currituck County 4-H continues with our Spotlight on Success series highlighting the outstanding accomplishments of our 4-H youth over the past four months. This series will showcase the dedication, leadership, and growth demonstrated by our 4-H’ers through a variety of programs, competitions, and community service efforts. From public speaking to target sports, and from citizenship to hands-on learning and sustained academic success Currituck County 4-H youth continue to make a meaningful impact both locally and beyond. Join us as we celebrate their hard work, share their stories, and shine a spotlight on the next generation of leaders.
In the spotlight this week is Senior 4-Her Elijah Campbell – the recipient of five 4-H scholarships for post secondary education. These scholarships are awarded to NC 4-H members who have displayed outstanding leadership and 4-H achievement, as well as a high level of academic excellence. Elijah was awarded the following 4-H Scholarships:
Dr. Thomas Hobgood 4-H Scholarship for the Northeast District
Gordon E. Sawyer Memorial
Joe Gregory 4-H Electric Scholarship
Ray Wilkinson Communications
William Edmond Sawyer
Elijah has had an outstanding tenure in the 4-H program; excelling in the project areas of citizenship, arts and communications, equine science and STEM. He has participated in nearly every 4-H program available and has represented Currituck County at NC 4-H Congress, NC 4-H Electric Congress, Citizenship NC Focus, North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Youth Voice, and as a US delegate to Japan in the 4-H International Exchange program. He has also served as an officer in two 4-H clubs, the County 4-H Teen Council, and was the youth representative to the Currituck Extension Advisory Council. He also volunteered more than 80 hours each summer as a youth leader for 4-H summer camps and summer fun workshops.
Elijah earned both Bronze and Silver levels of NC 4-H Ambassadors, won the Gold, Silver and Bronze Territorial awards at NC 4-H Electric Congress, earned the Gold level of the NC 4-H Horse Achievement medal, was the Currituck County 4-H’er of the Year for 4 years, and was inducted into NC 4-H Honor Club in 2024.
Elijah graduated from Currituck County High School this past June and will begin his studies in Digital Media Arts this fall at Elizabeth City State University.
