Solar panels, wind turbine, and dam

Are you ready to spark curiosity and fuel creativity? Join us for an exciting Electric and Energy STEM Day designed for youth ages 11 and up! Participants will dive into the fascinating world of renewable energy as they explore the science behind wind, solar, and hydro power through fun, hands-on learning. After discovering how these energy sources work, youth will put their knowledge to the test in a series of engineering challenges—designing and building a waterwheel and windmill to achieve the greatest lift capacity, and constructing a solar-powered vehicle to race for speed and accuracy. This action-packed day combines creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork while sparking curiosity about the power of sustainable energy!

Harness Solar Power – Build and test your own solar-powered devices!
Catch the Wind-Design & experiment with wind turbines to see how air can generate electricity & lift.
Explore Hydropower – Create a small-scale hydro project and learn how water powers our world.
Think Like an Engineer–Collaborate on challenges and be creative with real-world problem-solving!

No prior experience needed! Just bring your curiosity, and we’ll provide the rest – lunch is included.

Youth that participate in this workshop will also learn about NC 4-H Electric Congress and how to earn the opportunity to attend this exciting, all expenses paid event sponsored by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, and the NC Association of Electric Cooperatives. They will also have everything they need to complete an Electric Project Record and potentially attend NC 4-H Electric Congress in 2026.

This Camp is for youth ages 11-18 and will be held at the Currituck County Rural Center, 184 Milburn Sawyer Road, Powells Point NC 27966 on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
