 4-H is the Youth Development program of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. The Currituck County 4-H program offers Summer Fun - a series of educational camps designed to build life skills through shared experiences and hands-on learning. Camps are open to ages specific to the age appropriateness of the activities. 4-H Enrollment • 4-H Enrollment is required for participation in any in-person program conducted by the 4-H/Extension Staff. To complete enrollment visit https://v2.4honline.com/#/user/sign-in. . For those families new to 4-H. choose Member At Large for your club when enrolling. Camp Registration • Register and pay for classes using the Eventbrite Link provided. Each camp has a corresponding link. If you elect to pay by cash or check payment must be made within 5 working days of registration in order to hold your spot. Additional Information: • Fees cover insurance and supplies. Camp fees are non-refundable, unless the camp is canceled. Space is limited, so once enrolled, your child is expected to attend and participate. If your child can no longer attend, please contact the 4-H Office as soon as possible so we can offer the space to the waitlist. Start and end times are enforced. Please arrive on time and pick up your children on time. We are unable to wait for late campers when departing for "away" trips, due to schedules established with our partnering organizations. . If your child will be taking any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) during a 4-H camp. please advise the 4-H staff and supply the medication in a labeled container and instructions to the staff.  summer fun. 4-H summer day camp provides a safe and fun environment where your child can learn and grow. Youth participate in age-appropriate, learning-centered activities that encourage new skills, leadership. independence, and friendship. Each day will present a new educational activity focused on "Exploring our Natural World". There will be a wide variety of enrichment activities to keep campers engaged. Hands-on experiments, art projects, games, music, and field trips are just a few examples of the fun that will be experienced at Camp Mesowannago. Camp fees cover educational supplies and materials, insurance, field trip tickets and transportation, insurance, and 4-H promotional items. Week 1: June 26 to June 30: Shawboro Elementary School Week 2: July 3-7 (no camp on July 4): Currituck County Middle School Week 3: July 10 to July 14: Grandy-Griggs Elementary School Week 4: July 17 to July 21: Knott's Island Elementary School Week 5: July 24 to July 28: Moyock Middle School Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Ages: 5-12 (5yr old must have completed kindergarten) Cost: $85/week Happy Trails Horse Camp Saddle up and get ready for some horsing around. Camp activities include grooming and basic care, riding, and many other fun activities, designed to help your child increase their knowledge and skills about horses, animal care and equitation. This interactive educational camp will provide participants the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and skills in the horse industry. This camp will be held at the CCRC (Currituck County Rural Center) located at 184 Milburn Sawyer Rd. in Powells Point, NC. Dates: June 20-22 & July 11-13 Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Ages: 8-12 Cost: $30 per camp Little Bakers-Muffins Youth will have the opportunity to have fun in the kitchen while learning all about baking breads. Participants will learn how to read a recipe, measuring skills and baking techniques and learn nutritional information about using fruits and vegetables in baked goods. This event will provide a hands on baking experience in the kitchen and explore trends in food. Touring of the Rescue facility, learning how they prep for an emergency, filling out wild horse observation sheets, finding GPS coordinates of the horses locations, and teaching horse behavior cues. Participants will also learn to groom, halter and lead a formally Wild Banker Horse, learning basic horse first aid, and learn to check the horse's vitals signs. Chart DNA, and check the teeth for age. Youth will also go on a treasure hunt identifying horse markings and learning about the unique colors of the Corolla Wild Banker Horses, and most importantly learn about the historical significance of the State Horse of North Carolina. Dates: June 26, July 17, & August 7 Time: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Ages: 10-14 Cost: $5 Mooving Milk This two day camp will start on Tuesday June 27th at 9:00 a.m. We will learn about dairy cows, milk production, and explore the many other products made from milk. On Wednesday June 28th. participants will take a field trip to Simply Natural Creamery in Ayden NC. There they will pet the dairy calves, take a wagon tour of the farm, tour the milking barn, and end the trip with a sample of ice cream from the creamery. Tuesday June 27, 2023: Activities will be at the N.C. Cooperative Extension Center from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Wednesday June 28, 2023: Field trip to Simply Natural Creamery & Dairy in Ayden NC from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Dates: June 27-28 Ages: 5-8 Cost: $12 The Potato: Farm to Table Farm to fork program following the potato from the field to the table. Participants will begin with a farm tour of John E Ferebee Farms, a potato farm in Camden County. They will learn about the potato plant, how potatoes are harvested and graded, and then cleaned and bagged for distribution. After that, partiipants return to the Extension center and will prep and cook a delicious potato dish, and create some art work with potatoes. Dates: June 30 Time: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Ages: 9-13 Cost: $7 Culinary Academy 2023 Three day culinary camp for youth ages 11 to 14. Participants will engage in hands-on cooking challenges that involve food preparation techniques, insight into nutrition, food and recipe cost analysis, food and kitchen safety, and investigations into the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. Your child will learn the basics of kitchen safety, and will have the opportunity to prepare a variety of foods including main dishes. snacks, desserts, and appetizers. He or she will also have the opportunity to participate in a "Chopped Challenge" on the final day of the camp. Dates: July 5-7 Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Ages: 11-14 Cost: $20 Renewable Energy-Sun and Wave Participants ages 9-13, will learn about renewable energy with two fantastic workshops. Youth will visit thes Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese NC, where they will learn about how waves are measured and how electromagnetics can be used to create energy from waves. After a picnic lunch, participants will visit Jennette's pier for a solar energy workshop during which they will have the opportunity to build a car powered by the sun. Dates: July 6. Time: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Ages: 9-13 Cost: $10 Little Bakers-Bread Youth will have the opportunity to have fun in the kitchen while learning all about baking breads. Participants will learn how to read a recipe, measuring skills and baking techniques and learn nutritional information about using fruits and vegetables in baked goods. This event will provide a hands on baking experience in the kitchen and explore trends in food. Date: July 13 Time: 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Ages: 5-9 Cost: $8 Capturing Moments and Creating Art 4-H members, ages 8-13, will learn about improving their photography skills and try new techniques that will take their skills to the next level and enter them into the 4-H Photography Contest. They will learn about selecting a subject and how to frame their subject along with shadows and how to avoid them. Youth will need a smartphone or a camera. Additionally we will explore our creative side and create an art piece that they can enter in the Chowan County Regional Fair and the Currituck County Handmade and Homegrown contest or even the NC State Fair. Dates: July 18 Time: 9 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Ages: 8-13 Cost: $10 Wildlife Tour: Roanoke Sound Waterways This fun and exciting program is all about wildlife that live in the waterways and marshs around the Roanoke Sound. Youth ages 8-13, will enjoy a two hour tour on the Kokomo, a 40 passenger catamaran, with Paradise Dolphin Tours. As they will keep their eyes open looking for bottlenose dolphins, and local species of birds. They will also visit the Bodie Island Lighthouse and learn about the important role these grand structures to our coastal heritage and history. Dates: July 19 Time: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Ages: 8-13 Cost: $12 Cloverbud Mad Science This workshop is all about science and chemical reactions. Youth ages 5-8, will have lots of fun as they learn about making slime and and bouncy rubber balls. They will also learn about Newton's law of motion and experiment creating a soda volcano! There will be lots of slimy hands and fun as we get down and dirty with science. Dates: July 27 Time: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Ages: 5-8 Cost: $7 Historic Currituck-Corolla Participants ages 9-12, will go back in time as they walk through the Currituck County boat museum and learn about the historic boats, artifacts, and other displays that tell the stories of local businesses and citizens who lived and worked around the local waterways. They will also have the opportunity to climb the Currituck Lighthouse and tour the Whalehead Club. This will be a great history lesson on the heritage of Currituck County. Dates: July 28 Time: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Ages: 9-12 Cost: $12 Discovering Ocean Organisms Hands on science at the Coastal Studies Institute classroom at Jennettes Pier. Participants ages 9-13, learn all about ocean animals and then will dissect a squid and investigate the intricacies of the structure and function of this unique organism. They have a hands on learning experience with several of the many scientific instruments used by scientists to study and discover organisms that are vital to the marine food chain. Dates: August 1 Time: 11:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Ages: 9-13 Cost: $12 Wildlife: Water and Land Youth ages 5-8, will learn about how the marine fisheries department stocks local rivers and ponds with different species of fish. They will also get to see the small alligator and tour the small aquarium at the Edenton National Fish Hatchery. They will also learn about the ancient art of fish printing (Gyotaku) and make a craft to take home. They will also enjoy a lesson from a park ranger about the different wildlife species with habitats in the dismal swamp. Dates: August 2 Time: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Ages: 5-8 Cost: $7 Little Bakers-Cakes Youth will have the opportunity to have fun in the kitchen while learning all about the wonderful world of cake baking. Participants will learn how to read a recipe, measuring skills and baking techniques and learn nutritional information about using fruits and vegetables in baked goods. This event will provide a hands on baking experience in the kitchen and explore trends in food. Date: August 10 Time: 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Ages: 5-9 Cost: $8
