Description:

The Corolla Wild Horse Farm will be hosting a 4-H horse camp for ages 8 -14 to educate youth on the Corolla Wild Horse herd.

Youth will learn how they rescue, observe, identify the wild horses on the beach by:

Touring of the rescue facility, learning how they prep for an emergency, filling out wild horse observation sheets, finding GPS coordinates where the horses are, and teaching horse behavior cues.

Participants will learn about grooming, haltering, and leading a formally Corolla Wild Banker Horse. They will also be learning basic first aid, and checking horse’s vitals, (breathing, pulse, and temperature), charting DNA, and checking the teeth for age.

Youth will go on a treasure hunt identifying horse markings and learning about the unique colors of the Corolla Wild Banker Horses, and most importantly talk about the Historical Significance of the State Horse of North Carolina. Camp time will be 9am -12pm.

There is a $5.00 registration fee. This may be paid online through eventbrite or you may pay with cash or check. Cash and check payments need to be received within five days of your registration. If you are paying by check please make it payable to NCSU, and mail it to NCCE 120 Community Way Barco NC 27917.

This is not a riding camp so no riding will be done.

Registration is not complete until your child is enrolled in NC 4-H for the 2024 program year. The link to do that is https://v2.4honline.com/ .
