Horse Show Prep Clinics Currituck County 4-H will host three clinics to help youth and adults prepare for any upcoming horse shows. The clinics offered will provide instruction in all western and hunter events and participants will rotate through small group classes focused on a specific topic. Registered participants will also have the opportunity to identify specific areas for which they would like to have help on the class agenda. Participants will have the option to bring their own horse or just audit the clinics. Clinic dates are January 6, February 3 and March 2, 2024 10am -1pm rain or shine inside the covered arena. All horses must have a negative coggins dated within 12 months. Clinics will be held at the Currituck County Rural Center 184 Milburn.Sawyer Rd , Powells Point NC 27966. Description:

Camp Mesowannago Day Camp, for youth ages 5 (must have completed Kindergarten) to 12, is the perfect place for your child’s summer fun. 4-H summer day camp provides a safe and fun environment where your child can learn and grow. Youth participate in age-appropriate, learning centered activities that encourage new skills, leadership, independence, and friendship. Each day will present a new educational theme with a wide variety of enrichment activities to keep campers engaged. Hands-on experiments, art projects, games, music, cooking, and field trip Wednesdays are just a few examples of the fun that will be experienced at Camp Mesowannago.

Camp will be held from 9am-3pm Monday thru Friday at the locations below. A registration fee of $85.00 is required, which includes supplies and materials for educational activities and crafts, insurance, safety and first aid supplies and equipment, off-site educational program fees, transportation fees and a 4-H Outdoor Explorers Ruck with a water bottle.

To register, complete the online registration and payment through Eventbrite and enroll your child in 4-H for the 2024 program year at 4HOnline. We are accepting cash and check payments in addition to paying via credit card through Eventbrite. Please, make checks payable to NCSU. Checks and cash payments can be received at the Currituck Extension Office located at 120 Community Way Barco, NC 27917, within 5 days of registration. Class size is limited and full registration, including payment, is required to hold your space.

The Corolla Wild Horse Farm will be hosting a 4-H horse camp for ages 8 -14 to educate youth on the Corolla Wild Horse herd.

Youth will learn how they rescue, observe, identify the wild horses on the beach by:

Touring of the rescue facility, learning how they prep for an emergency, filling out wild horse observation sheets, finding GPS coordinates where the horses are, and teaching horse behavior cues.

Participants will learn about grooming, haltering, and leading a formally Corolla Wild Banker Horse. They will also be learning basic first aid, and checking horse’s vitals, (breathing, pulse, and temperature), charting DNA, and checking the teeth for age.

Youth will go on a treasure hunt identifying horse markings and learning about the unique colors of the Corolla Wild Banker Horses, and most importantly talk about the Historical Significance of the State Horse of North Carolina. Camp time will be 9am -12pm.

There is a $5.00 registration fee. This may be paid online through eventbrite or you may pay with cash or check. Cash and check payments need to be received within five days of your registration. This is not a riding camp so no riding will be done.

Description:

During this workshop participants aged 5 - 7 will learn about the different types of fish. They will classify fish according to the body shape and their coloration. We will also learn about adaptations and how adaptations help fish survive in their habitat. They will make an art project as they learn about fish printing, and they will have the opportunity to go fishing at the stocked fish ponds on site. This workshop will be at the CCRC located at 184 Milburn Sawyer Rd in Powells Point.

Space is limited and registration deadline is July 26, 2024. There is a $5.00 registration fee. This may be paid online through eventbrite or you may pay with cash or check. Pesticide license holders with North Carolina Private Pesticide Applicator licenses set to expire in 2024 need to receive 2 hours of X credit and 2 hours of V credit by the NCDA&CS cut-off date of Sept. 30th, 2024. License holders have 3 years to receive their credits and can search the Dept. of Agriculture’s website or call the Extension office to check how many credits you have for the current license period. Before the end of the current cycle, we will be holding one X credit opportunity and one V credit opportunity at the Extension center located at 120 Community Way in Barco. Private Applicator ‘V’ Training.

Join us on Tuesday, July 16th from 9:00 - 11:00 am at the Currituck Extension Center for our last ‘V’ credit opportunity of the year. This training will cover the V credit portion of the private applicator license which is required every three years. This will be presented by Chris Hassell, NCDA&CS Pesticide Inspector.

2024 Northeast Ag Expo.

This year’s summer Expo will be held in Perquimans County at TBS Farms, 1178 Lake Rd, Hertford, NC on July 25th, from 7:45 - 1:00 pm. Test plots will focus on soybean and corn production. The event will start with a trade show, followed by educational tours of the research plots and grain bin economics. The event will finish with a catered lunch. Attendees will receive two hours of N, O, D, & X pesticide credits. Register for our summer field day to let us know you’re coming!

Private Applicator ‘X’ Training.

On Tuesday, July 30th, we’ll offer our last ‘X’ credit opportunity for 2024. Join us from 9:00 - 11:00 am at the Currituck Extension Center to get your last pesticide credits for this license period. This training also offers credits for multiple commercial applicator categories. Call the Currituck Extension Center at 252-232-2261 for more information.

Private Applicator Fumigation ‘ZSF’ Training.

Immediately following the Private Applicator ‘X’ Training on July 30th from 11:00 - Noon, we'll hold a Private Applicator Fumigation Training. This training fulfills the credit requirements for private applicator license holders who have a fumigation category (ZSF). This training does NOT provide credits for commercial applicators with a fumigation category. For questions or concerns, please call the Currituck Extension Center.
